Bicton Blister - 28-Nov-04

Plymouth runner Stuart Hall won the gruelling 11-mile Bicton Blister in East Devon on Sunday. The Tipton Harriers athlete completed the cross-country course near Bicton College in 1hr 2.01min to claim first place ahead of the 430 other entrants.

Hall, who competed in the marathon at the 2002 Commonwealth Games in Manchester, held off the challenge of Exeter Harriers runner Ben Hellmers, who finished almost 90 seconds behind in 1:03.26. Paul Holley (Axe Valley Runners) was third in 1:05.17 and fourth was Nick Hatchard (Exmouth Harriers) another 18 seconds back.

The first female finisher was Honiton Running Club's Heather Foundling Hawker, who was 27th overall in 1:14.27. She was closely followed by Rachael Currie, who ran 1:15.16 and earned 33rd place.

Organising club Exmouth Harriers enjoyed a doubly successful day as they won both the senior men's and senior ladies' team events.

Committee member Jon Bamsey said: "It was a very good day. The event is growing and getting more popular each year. It was a very good standard this year and I think a few of our team were quite surprised we won the team prizes."
